Washing feet (John 13:1-17)
No, no Jesus, no.
You can’t wash my feet.
I must be self-sufficient,
Not needing anyone
Not even you.
I cannot let you
Come near the dirt
You see is there.
I am ashamed.
I follow you, love you
But in my own strength,
On my own terms,
Hanging on to my pride,
Unwilling to face
The depth of my need.
Yet still you wait,
Patient, towel in hand,
Water at the ready,
Until at last I lay down
All my foolish vanity
And let you love me.
