Calming the storm (Matthew 8:23-27)
I know the lake,
Had weathered many squalls,
But this was a storm
Like no other,
As though the very forces of darkness
Gathered in a supreme effort
Of destruction
Centred on our little craft.
And I was afraid
That this time I would drown.
We marveled
That Jesus could sleep
Through such an onslaught.
But, when we woke him,
We were more in awe
That this, our friend,
Stopped all the chaos
With a word.
