“When we are reflecting on our sense of the presence of God, and realising that it can more often be described as a sense of God’s absence, it is easy to go to a gentle, vague, non-content-full faith, something ill-defined and undefinable. And it is true that God is beyond our words. But such a faith, such a God, is not tough enough in the face of the grief and despair of the world.”
